El otro día me aventé un zoom con Gayo Valdez para hablar acerca de cómo estaba, su proyecto y básicamente updatearnos. Su caso es curioso, ya que es un artista que forma parte de un selecto grupo de personas que realmente hace lo que le sale de los cojones y sigue creciendo con su proyecto musical, ante una aparente desorganización y falta de planeación me interesaba mucho platicar con él para averiguar la verdad detrás de su proceso de trabajo y saber realmente si era verdad esto, ya que para mantenerse tan activo como él lo hace, dudaba mucho que ese fuera el caso.
El artista poblano es una persona quien ha alcanzado relevancia nacional y aún así, sigue llevando su proyecto de manera independiente, grabando con quien se le hinche sin importar su posicionamiento y llevando una relación de amistad con sus fans tan cercana como la de cualquier compa. Realmente Gayo me comentá que él, está en contra de la palabra “fan”, “A mi nunca me ha gustado decir fans, es la gente que me escucha” y la relación lo amerita. El artista tiene un grupo de whatsapp con estas personas, responde cada historia o mensaje que puede y se abre acerca de lo que está sucediendo en su vida con la casualidad que le nazca. “Mientras yo pueda lo mantendré así” me comenta más adelante.
Me cuenta de como al momento de lanzar su más reciente proyecto “Claridad”, no le había avisado a su equipo de distribución si quiera que iba a salir y que se dieron cuenta al mismo tiempo que los fans, demostrándome que verdaderamente esta el decidiendo la linea de sus lanzamientos. Entiendo más como funciona su progreso de trabajo a cómo progresa nuestra conservación pero cualquier ejecutivo que yo conozca y respete lo describiría como caótico. Aún así dentro del caos, Gayo encuentra una manera de que todo el trabajo salga adelante, a final de cuentas solamente es posible que lance tanta música y videos si verdaderamente los hace, el testamento a su trabajo es la existencia de estos materiales, ya que a final del día nadie puede pararse frente a la cámara o el micrófono más que el mismo para ejecutar esto. Durante el 2021 lanzó más de 35 temas en el año dentro de los cuales iba un álbum oscuro profundo y reflexivo, este año ya lleva más de 10 temas, otro álbum y al parecer solamente seguirá aumentando la dosis. Gayo Valdez es de los pocos artistas que dice “se viene mucha música nueva” y verdaderamente se viene mucha música nueva.
Cuando le pregunto acerca de los deals y tentaciones que han llegado con su notoriedad me responde que no tiene planes de agrandar su equipo realmente, que busca seguir manteniendo el proceso que lo ha traído hasta este punto: “Yo siempre he dicho que mientras menos gente en tu proyecto es mejor. Porque claro que te quieren dar un impulso pero también hay gente que quiere ser un poquito más ventajosa o que te quiere sacar una, dos, tres cosas y si tu mantienes un control de tu propio proyecto, que claro que si te ofrecen cosas que tu sabes que en un futuro te van a servir y que obviamente no te están limitando tu proyecto se toman se manejan, se trabajan… pero si es algo que tu ya sabes que van a estar delimitando tu proceso creativo y que te van a estar pidiendo que hagas ciertas cosas que tu no quieres hacer, o que al final en una de esas te pueden chingar como se chingaron al Paulo Londra”.
El artista está consciente de que puede ejercer de esta manera su carrera ya que hay una base de seguidores que están al pendiente de él y que escuchan sus canciones “De nada me serviría sacar todo lo que saco si no hay alguien para escucharlo… al final podría seguir sacando y construyendo pero si no hay alguien quien lo escucha, no sería nada…” es decir, el poder mantener operando su proyecto de la manera en que él desea es mero privilegio que le otorgan sus fans. La gran mayoría de los artistas deben de hacer compromisos constantemente con su manera de operar por buscar maneras de llegar a más personas, dentro de su naturalidad, Gayo ha encontrado la manera de doblar esos compromisos a su agenda.
Gayo Valdez me habla de pedas que se convierten en grabaciones de videos, cotorreos que se convierten en sesiones de estudio y como cada día es una mezcla de fiesta y trabajo pero me comenta es algo que quiere cambiar: “Llega un momento en donde como que te hastía todo este pedo y yo siento que me esta llegando ya. Ya fueron demasiados excesos y si quiero seguir con lo que estoy haciendo de esta manera y como lo estoy logrando, tal vez es momento de madurar y agarrar el pedo”. De la misma manera como con el resto de los puntos mencionados, Gayo podrá tener una cheve en mano de lunes a viernes, pero al menos se la pasa chambeando prácticamente el mismo tiempo que le dedica a su diversión.
Cualquier persona de la industria que pudiera entrar en contacto con Gayo diría que está haciendo todo mal, que no está tomando esto en serio y que solo ha sido una racha de suerte. Esas personas hoy estarían equivocadas al no entender que el artista ha sabido priorizar la creación de una comunidad, el alimentarla con música constantemente y presentar su figura pública de una manera en que conecta con las personas a través de su contenido, el cuál logra que su música comience a formar parte de sus vidas. El caso de Gayo es curioso, pero si entiendes lo que es importante, también le agarras el pedo.
