Gepe y El David Aguilar, de Chile y México respectivamente, se unieron hace un año a componer “Coquimbo, Mazatlán” un tema descrito por ellos mismos como una ranchera gospel, en dónde encontraron un canvas en común que les permitió salir fuera de sus zonas de confort.
El video oficial del tema estelarizado por Salvador Insunza acompaña a su personaje dentro de un mundo Western filmado en el primer pueblo libre de Chile, San Antonio de la Unión Putaendo. La unión en este tema no es solamente entre el norte y el sur del continente sino que pone a referencias como Ramón Ayala y Relampago del Norte junto con Depeche Mode que fue la guía para las percusiones, “Yo la entiendo a la canción como alternativa, no la veo como una canción tradicional” comenta El David Aguilar, resaltando la emoción de tomar referencias que pueden parecer distantes para crear “En tanto que más híbrido es el resultado, tiende a tener más riqueza porque es más difícil de desmenuzar”.
La influencia del Western es tanto mexicana como estadounidense, lo cuál llevó a los artistas a reflexionar del impacto que sigue teniendo esta música y estética en ciertas regiones, aunque técnicamente se encuentren en países distintos “Esta frontera entre lo country, blues, ranchero, es muy loco pensar que la región del norte de México y del sur de Estados Unidos, finalmente, si es verdad hay una frontera, pero hasta hace 200 años, que no es nada, era una región que pertenecía a México, independientemente a qué país pertenece, quiero decir que es la misma gente, no sé, siento que hay algo característico que se expresa en cierto tipo de música en la cadencia melódica tipo de versos y el ritmo nos llevó naturalmente ahí” agrega El David Aguilar.
Como de costumbre, le preguntó a los invitados del día ¿Qué es lo mejor del momento para ambos? Para lo que Gepe tiene la respuesta muy clara y marca el rumbo del resto de nuestra conversación “Para mi, entender que la tranquilidad no es ir más lento, yo siempre he sido una persona muy ansiosa y de un tiempo hasta acá probablemente por la pandemia que se yo caché que la tranquilidad es un estado que me permite ser inclusive más productivo y disfrutar la vida más en resumen” y David Aguilar está de acuerdo con él agregando a su respuesta, “No tiene que ver con la velocidad tiene que ver con cómo consigues tu sentirte, yo en mi caso ha sido a través de la búsqueda de la honestidad, de la ardua honestidad eso es lo que me da tranquilidad sabiendo que no me estoy autoengañando en ningún sentido, prefiero que pase lo que pase siendo sincero complemente conmigo mismo a que pasen castillos de cristal a través de la mentira, me encanta la verdad”. Gepe vuelve a tomar la palabra y agrega “Buscando así como las cosas más puntuales, a mi me encanta la canción de Shakira y Rauw Alejandro”.
