“Se trata mucho de romper los límites sónicamente” es de lo primero que me dice Lucca cuando comienza a hablar de GRLS, el dueto mexicano que está persiguiendo su espíritu salvaje de creatividad. Conformado por Diego y Lucca, el proyecto comienza en Boston donde se conocieron mientras estudiaban en Berklee, al conectar realizando música, decidieron abandonar la escuela para trabajar en su álbum debut GRLS I el cuál se estrenó en abril de este año. 

Ambos son artistas multidisciplinarios, involucrándose en todos los aspectos creativos de su proyecto: música, video, fotografía y cualquier actividad que conlleve creatividad. “Tenemos muy claro que queremos, es más fácil hacerlo nosotros” comenta Lucca acerca de este involucramiento, el cuál nació inicialmente de una necesidad, al comenzar como artistas independientes y buscar ejecutar su visión, fueron aprendiendo las diferentes habilidades necesarias para sacar su proyecto adelante “En ese tiempo no teníamos dinero para hacer masterización todas las rolas, mezcla todas las rolas, entonces pues lo acabamos haciendo nosotros y con los años lo vamos perfeccionando”. 

La experimentación creativa para el dueto viene de perseguir un instinto creativo que los lleva a sus canciones sin necesariamente estar pensando en donde encaja el resultado “Siempre hemos tenido ese espíritu salvaje de pues güey yo voy a hacer una rola y le voy a meter esto, esto, esto y me vale, no estoy pensando en hacer una rola de house, o de indie o de rock, solo nos estamos divirtiendo”. Entendiendo que es un proyecto altamente basado en conceptos y la experimentación, tienen claro el reto que hay dentro de su música “Como que no es tan digerible de alguna manera al principio, no es como tan predecible diría yo y siento que eso es lo que nos diferencía un leve, que traemos una onda bien rara.” 

Tomando esto en cuenta, los artistas han estado experimentando también en los formatos en los cuales comparten su música, su nuevo sencillo “Kasbah” llega en dos versiones de distinta duración, una para el video oficial y otra para streaming, buscando retar su creatividad para conectar con más personas.
